West Ham seem to have been given the green signal to secure the services of AS Monaco defender Eric Dier in the January transfer window.

Nuno Espirito Santo wants a new centre-back in this window as his side have the worst defensive record in the Premier League.

He believes that bringing in a quality defender would help shore up the West Ham defence and give them the best chance of avoiding relegation.

Eric Dier would be the PERFECT January signing for West Ham…😍

AS Monaco open door for Eric Dier exit after signing replacement

Most European clubs selling to teams in the Premier League often look to sign replacements before parting ways with their first-team players.

This is because they do not have the funds of top-flight sides, and find it hard to make signings in the business end of windows, as throwing large sums of money is not always an option.

AS Monaco have done exactly that as they secured the services of Wout Faes from Leicester City.

Would you take relegation if it meant that David Sullivan would leave?! 🤔

Not a nice position to be in – but what would YOU choose if you had to?

The French club made the announcement at 6 pm on Tuesday, confirming that the Belgium international will join on loan with an option to buy.

With him through the door, Dier is now likely to be allowed to leave, and things could accelerate with regard to his move to the London Stadium.

This comes after talkSPORT reported that the defender, who has 49 caps for England, has been offered to the Hammers.

What can Dier offer to West Ham?

Nuno needs a centre-back who has gone toe to toe against Premier League attackers, and in Dier, he has just the man who can do that.

The 31-year-old also offers leadership, something that is lacking in this West Ham side.

His arrival could see him instantly become an important influence behind the scenes, and could also see things tighten up at the back.

Dier also has the experience of playing in a back three as well as in midfield, so he would be an ideal option for Nuno in case the Portuguese opts to switch systems during games.

It remains to be seen if the Hammers boss fancies Dier or if he has other options he would rather bring to the club.
