West Ham now eyeing January window move for striker with £60 million release clause

West Ham have been linked with yet another striker in the January transfer window, this time Espanyol ace Raul De Tomas.

Spanish publication AS reckon that the Hammers are keen to sign the 27-year-old Espanyol hitman.

David Moyes desperately needs to add a top-class striker to his ranks at the London Stadium before the January window slams shut.

West Ham quite simply cannot continue to rely on Michail Antonio every single game. The fact that he is our only option through the middle is beyond a joke.

LEAVE RASHFORD ALONE.

It’s unfair on Micky to expect him to produce the goods week in week out. It is also obvious to see that he has recently been playing like someone who has zero competition and is fully aware that he won’t be dropped.

The Hammers have been consistently linked with moves to sign numerous centre-forwards since the summer and today another name has been mentioned…

West Ham linked with January window move for Spanish striker

AS claims that the Hammers are eyeing up a swoop for the 27-year-old Espanyol hitman Raul de Tomas.

The two-capped Spain international has bagged 12 goals in 21 La Liga games so far this season (Transfermarkt).

He joined Espanyol from Benfica in the summer of 2020 and has gone on to score 40 goals in 76 games (Transfermarkt). Those are some very impressive numbers.

De Tomas is a strong, hard-working forward. He is well-versed in playing with his back to goal and is obviously a very good finisher.

On face value, the Spaniard seems to be ideally suited to West Ham.

There is one very big problem though – his €70 million (£60 million) release clause (AS). The Hammers obviously won’t be paying anything like that for a single player this month.

Perhaps if Espanyol are willing to do business closer to £30 million or so, then this is one that might have some legs.

One thing’s for sure, a finish inside the top six will not be possible if Moyes fails to sign a striker before the January transfer window slams shut.

However, whether Raul de Tomas is a realistic option for West Ham is debatable.
