West Ham United have been mocked over their recruitment with a cutting ‘2011’ dig but their blushes could yet be spared.

West Ham have been heavily linked with a move for out of contract midfielder Samir Nasri.

The Daily Mail reported at the weekend that the former France star wanted a £5m-a-year to move to West Ham.

Fans divided over Nasri move

The Mail claimed the former Arsenal and Manchester City man was in talks with the Hammers after completing a drugs ban.

The Evening Standard then claimed the 31-year-old, who was a key player for Hammers manager Manuel Pellegrini when he won the title with Manchester City, will join for an initial six months on £80,000 per week with the option to extend.

The move for Nasri has sparked a lot of debate and has divided fans, many of whom feel it is ‘typical’ of West Ham to pay big wages to a player past his best.

‘Give his money to Rice’

Many called for the money to be handed to young midfield star Declan Rice instead.

Rice has been involved in protracted contract negotiations with the Hammers and has been a star performer this season.

The Nasri move has seen West Ham mocked by rival fans over their recruitment.

One message on Twitter summed it up best.

Twitter user Dan Mason posted: “With Nasri joining Zabaleta, Wilshere, Carroll and Chicharito West Ham look like they could really do something in 2011.”

Blushes spared?

Some reports claim the idea to sign Nasri is very much the manager’s.

But some fans feel it smacks of co-owners David Sullivan and David Gold.

But Hammers supporters’ blushes could yet be spared.

That’s because new reports on Monday night claimed West Ham were ready to pull the plug on the Nasri deal.

According to The Mirror West Ham have grave concerns over the former France midfielder’s fitness.

The Mirror said Nasri was so out of shape that he may not even be ready to play by the start of January, when his current ban for doping expires.

Above all many supporters will see it as a bullet dodged.
