West Ham United have allegedly made enquiries about signing talented play-maker Christian Eriksen on a free transfer this summer.

That’s according to Daily Star journalist Paul Brown who told Give Me Sport that the Hammers may well struggle to sign the Denmark international though.

Eriksen would be a truly stunning addition to West Ham boss David Moyes’s ranks at the London Stadium this summer.

West Ham have signed Nayef Aguerd so far this summer but Moyes needs to add at least another five or six top quality players to his squad if we are to achieve success on all fronts next season.

One of those additions needs to be an attack-minded midfield play-maker. And there aren’t many better out there than Christian Eriksen.

The 30-year-old suffered a cardiac arrest whilst playing for Denmark at the Euros last summer.

It wasn’t surprising that clubs were apprehensive about signing the 30-year-old. Brentford took the plunge though and he has gone on to be a huge hit with the Premier League side.

Eriksen has really impressed since moving to Brentford on a free transfer in January. He played a key role for Thomas Frank’s side.

The 30-year-old proved over the past couple of months that he still has the quality needed to make a difference in the Premier League.

The Dane bagged one goal and four assists in 11 Premier League games for the Bees last season (Transfermarkt).

And after his fine form, it seems as though the Hammers are keen to sign him…

West Ham enquire about Christian Eriksen

Paul Brown told Give Me Sport that the Hammers want Eriksen, although we could face disappointment:

“I think they’ve asked the question, but I think Eriksen is quite ambitious and wants to play for a team of a higher standing. Ideally, he’d love to be playing in the Champions League, really. He had a chance to go back to Spurs when the Inter thing wasn’t working out for him, and all the indications from his people then were that he didn’t really want to come back. He felt it was a step back for him; he wanted to move up in the world and play regular Champions League football for a contender, so West Ham and Brentford clearly don’t fit that. Things have changed since then; obviously a lot’s happened in his life. But I think, ideally, he’s still looking for one more shot at the big time and may feel that West Ham aren’t high on his list of priorities.”

So it seems as though Eriksen will be plying his trade for a Champions League club next season.

And that’s a real shame for West Ham. He would have added so much to our attacking play what with his creativity, guile and invention in and around the penalty box.

The Dane is still one of the very best play-makers in world football. He has been described as a ‘sensational’ player by The Times.

So it’s no surprise really that he will probably end up at one of the elite clubs on the continent. And missing out on Christian Eriksen will be a big blow for West Ham.
