West Ham United are reportedly leading the race to sign Blackburn striker Ben Brereton Diaz in the summer transfer window.

That’s according to a report from football journalist Alan Nixon who claims that the Hammers are in pole position to bring the 22-year-old centre-forward to the London Stadium this summer.

West Ham manager David Moyes desperately needs to bolster his attacking ranks before the start of next season.

Michail Antonio is currently the only striker Moyes has at his disposal and that has proved costly with our poor run of form since January in the Premier League and our exit from the Europa League at the semi-final stage.

Signing a top-class centre-forward in the summer will be absolutely pivotal to our hopes of challenging for a top four spot next term. And it seems as though Moyes has a specific plan in mind…

West Ham leading race to sign Ben Brereton Diaz

The Sun and Alan Nixon suggest that the Hammers are in for the Blackburn ace.

It is suggested that a move to West Ham in the summer would be a dream for the 23-year-old striker.

If Moyes does manage to sign Brereton Diaz, he would be a very smart addition for the Hammers.

The 23-year-old has really impressed since the start of the 2021/22 campaign and he seems to have reached another level entirely for Blackburn.

The Chile international has bagged 22 goals in 37 Championship games (Transfermarkt). Diaz actually went nine games without scoring after the new year but made up for that with a couple of goals in Blackburn’s final four games of the season.

Brereton Diaz is a hard working striker and standing at 6ft 1in tall, he’s big and strong as well.

Blackburn boss Tony Mowbray recently raved about the Chile international, as quoted by Lancs Live:

“Brereton with the ball at his feet is an extraordinary talent. He’s a wonderful footballer who can dribble with both feet, take people out of the game.”

After struggling during the early years of his career, it seems as though he has received a real confidence boost from being included in the Chile squad.

The Sun reckons that he will be available for around £15 million this summer. That sounds like decent value to us. And we would be more than happy if Moyes manages to sign the Blackburn ace in the summer.

It seems like that is highly likely with West Ham reportedly leading the race to sign Ben Brereton Diaz in the summer.
