West Ham United insider ExWHUemployee has pointed out something rather interesting regarding Manchester United’s Jesse Lingard.
It is perhaps one of the worst kept secrets in football that David Moyes wants to bring Lingard to West Ham on a permanent basis from Man United this summer.
The midfielder was a sensation on loan from the Red Devils, where he had been frozen out for two years.
Lingard scored nine goals and laid on four assists – and several more pre-assists – during a scintillating 16-game spell with West Ham after joining from Man United in the January window.
Will he, won’t he Lingard saga rumbles on for West Ham
Speculation has been rife as to whether Man United will sell or try to get Lingard – who has a year left on his contract – to sign a new deal.
There has even been talk the Red Devils could try and use Lingard as a makeweight in deals with other clubs or even West Ham in their own move for Declan Rice.
There have been hugely conflicting reports over Lingard’s future this week as we reported here.
Lingard threw a parrot among the pigeons (pun intended) when he was pictured on social media watching England’s Euro 2020 win over Croatia in a bar while wearing a Declan Rice shirt – with a parrot on his shoulder, as you do.
And West Ham insider ExWHUemployee – who has long maintained that Lingard has told his Hammers teammates he wants to stay at the London Stadium – has pointed out something interesting about that particular social media snap.
Insider points out something interesting about Lingard decision to wear Rice shirt while watching England
Speaking on the latest West Ham Way podcast, Ex said he found the choice of a Rice England shirt interesting and suggested it may well be a message about his future.
“I don’t think his future is decided either way, I think he’s due to have talks with (Ole Gunnar) Solskjaer and it all depends on whether Solskjaer wants to keep him.
“And even then that doesn’t necessarily rule him out for West Ham because he loves the club you know.
Ex says Lingard could have picked a Man United player, suggests it is a good sign for Moyes and Hammers
“You think, he’s wearing Rice on his shirt, you think how many players he’s played with at Manchester United that are in that England squad that he chose not to wear.
“I know not all of them started but there’s obviously (Marcus) Rashford, Luke Shaw, (Harry) Maguire… and he didn’t wear any of those. So I think that’s a good sign.
“And anyway before that he’s said how much he loves playing for the club, he’s said how much he loves West Ham, his brother was on social media in a celebration of Jesse’s in a West Ham shirt so they do really love the club.
“It’s just going to be how much Solskjaer tries to convince him to stay at United.”
