West Ham insider ExWHUemployee makes Moussa Dembele claim

ExWHUemployee has claimed that West Ham are indeed interested in signing Lyon striker Moussa Dembele in January.

France Football (November 24th, page 4) suggested earlier this week that Hammers boss David Moyes is closely watching the 24-year-old striker.

And Foot Mercato then claimed that the Scot has not been put off by Dembele’s recent goal drought.

Despite the Frenchman’s recent struggles in front of goal, he still possesses a better than average goalscoring record.

The 24-year-old joined Lyon from Celtic in the summer of 2018 for around £19.7 million (BBC). He has been a real hit with the Ligue 1 outfit.

Dembele has gone on to score 44 goals in 102 appearances for Lyon. He racked up 51 goals in 94 games for Celtic before moving to France (Transfermarkt).

If Moyes brings the 24-year-old to the London Stadium, he would undoubtedly make West Ham a stronger team.

ExWHUemployee suggested that that is certainly a possibility, when speaking on the West Ham Way podcast last night (Wednesday November 25th):

“Dembele of Lyon is a player we have considered and had a look at on occasions in the past.”

The big problem is that Dembele is allegedly valued at around £30 million (The Sun).

In all honesty, there is no chance that the West Ham owners will splash that kind of cash in January.

Perhaps if Lyon were willing to sell the Frenchman for closer to £20 million we might just have a chance.

Ex’s claim that we are keen on Dembele will make the Hammers fans at least believe the rumours more than they may have done previously.

Only time will tell, however, as to whether West Ham have the ambition and finances required to prise the 24-year-old away from Lyon in January.
