West Ham are in talks with Armenian striker Norberto Briasco who has been dubbed the new Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

That’s according to Armenian journalist Hrach Khachatryan, who made the claim on social media at the weekend.

It is hardly a secret that West Ham want to sign a striker in the January transfer window.

David Moyes has admitted he wants to bring a forward in to give West Ham the kind of spark Jesse Lingard provided last season.

And according to journalist Khachatryan, West Ham are in talks with representatives of 25-year-old Boca Juniors striker Briasco.

West Ham in talks with striker Norberto Briasco who has been dubbed the new Henrikh Mkhitaryan claims journalist

“West Ham representatives have reportedly made contact with Boca Juniors and Armenia national team forward Norber Briasco Balekyan over a potential transfer in January,” Khachatryan said on Twitter.

There is scant information about the reported West Ham striker target, who does not appear to be the most prolific forward.

He has made eight appearances for Armenia and has been dubbed the new Mkhitaryan – the former Arsenal and Manchester United star who is a legend in Armenia.

Reporting West Ham’s interest, Yahoo Sport says Buenos Aries born Briasco has been criticised by Boca fans.

But the report suggests he could now be on his way to West Ham.

“Despite receiving several criticisms from Boca fans, Norberto Briasco continued in the coach’s plans and, on more than one occasion, started over Luis Vásquez,” Yahoo Sport reports.

“And now he could emigrate to the Premier League.

“For now, at the La Ribera club no specific offer has appeared to stay with Briasco.

“However, based on the information provided by the Armenian journalist, there have already been several contacts between the former Hurricane’s environment and those who manage the West Ham football project.”

So fans should not be too put off by the fact they may never had heard of Briasco.

His record will raise eyebrows, though, and the fact his own fans are on his back at Boca does not bode well either.

Here’s the obligatory YouTube video showing Briasco in action.
