West Ham United could well be in ongoing talks behind the scenes to sign Jesse Lingard on a free transfer this summer.
That’s according to talkSPORT journalist Alex Crook who told Give Me Sport that a move abroad is likely for Lingard but the Hammers still hold out hope of signing him on a free.
Jesse spent four months at the London Stadium on loan last season and he absolutely loved his time there.
The West Ham fans loved the 29-year-old as well. He bagged nine goals and four assists in just 16 Premier League games for the Hammers. It seemed like a match made in heaven.
Lingard returned to Manchester United last summer though, under the false pretence that he would play regularly. That obviously didn’t happen and now his time at Old Trafford will be over at the end of this month.
It seems as though David Moyes is desperate to bring Jesse back to the London Stadium.
West Ham in ongoing talks to sign Jesse Lingard
And now Alex Crook has suggested that the Scot definitely hasn’t given up hope of striking a deal for the 32-capped England international.
A move abroad seems likely for Lingard at the moment but Crook told Give Me Sport how talks could still be ongoing in the background between the Manchester United man and West Ham:
“There has been talk of a move abroad previously. I think that, at the moment, would look more likely than West Ham but, I’m sure, conversations are still going on in the background, and they have been for about the last year or so.”
We would obviously love to see Jesse back at the London Stadium this summer.
Moyes simply cannot waste an entire summer transfer window chasing after the 29-year-old though. The Scot has far bigger fish to fry.
If West Ham are in talks to sign Lingard then that’s great. It should be a straight forward yes or no answer from Jesse though. If he doesn’t want to come, there are plenty of other options out there for the Hammers.
