West Ham hold talks in bid to beat Newcastle to Bournemouth star as Mohammed Kudus heir

West Ham have opened talks over a move to sign a Bournemouth star as they look to beat Newcastle United to the signature of a player being eyed as a potential successor to Mohammed Kudus.

It is one of the worst kept secrets in football that Mohammed Kudus will be sold by West Ham this summer.

Back in April, it was reported Newcastle United want to sign Kudus this summer.

Eddie Howe wants to strengthen his side ready for the Champions League and sees Kudus as a player who can thrive in his swashbuckling Newcastle team.

Newcastle one of many linked with West Ham star Kudus

The Hammers confirmed well over a year ago that Kudus has an £85m release clause in his West Ham contract.

The clause was inserted at Kudus’ request as a mechanism to prevent West Ham’s board from blocking a move to an elite club if one came knocking and were willing to pay big.

Kudus’ clause is something of a red herring because West Ham can accept whatever fee they like for him from Newcastle or whoever else might be interested.

The Hammers may well have to settle for a touch less given Kudus’ drop off in form in his second season compared to that scintillating debut campaign where he provided 20 goal contributions.

West Ham continue to maintain the club is at the limit in terms of PSR.

As a result the east Londoners are banking on selling Kudus to raise funds for Graham Potter’s summer rebuild.

West Ham revealed last week that three Premier League clubs want Kudus but they are yet to receive any official bids.

Back in April it was claimed the Magpies are planning a £70m offer to sign Kudus from West Ham this summer.

West Ham hold talks to beat Newcastle to Tavernier

Now the situation has taken a very interesting twist.

Because West Ham have held talks in bid to beat Newcastle to a Bournemouth star they see as a potential Kudus heir.

Hammers News can reveal West Ham are interested in Bournemouth winger Marcus Tavernier and have held talks over a deal for the former England Under-21 international.

Football correspondent Graeme Bailey has exclusively told Hammers News that West Ham are making a serious push for Tavernier, who has been watched and monitored by Newcastle.

Hammers see Tavernier as Kudus replacement

Tavernier has been a stand-out performer under Andoni Iraola and The Cherries are even looking at trying to extend his contract at The Vitality Stadium.

However, Bailey has revealed the 26-year-old is now emerging as a target for a number of clubs with West Ham making a ‘serious push’ for Tavernier.

Bailey has also confirmed Newcastle’s interest, stating Howe kept a close eye on the former Middlesbrough star last season.

West Ham are said to see Tavernier as a replacement for Kudus – with the Ghanaian set to leave the club this summer.

One issue for the Hammers is Saudi Arabia.

Because we can also reveal that West Ham are not the only club to show an interest in the Cherries star, with Saudi Arabian giants Al-Ahli having also made contact about him.

Whether the fact Newcastle also have Tavernier in their sights means they are not one of the three Premier League clubs interested in Kudus remains to be seen.

But with no money to spend, the Hammers must feel confident of raising some funds through a sale or two soon if talks have been held over Tavernier.
