Tottenham Hotspur want to put West Ham majority owner David Sullivan in a very difficult position but it’s mega-rich Newcastle to the rescue.
West Ham have made it clear they have to sell to buy this summer.
That’s worrying given the size of the rebuild Graham Potter needs to perform after West Ham’s dismal season.
Spurs haven’t been much better than their bitter rivals. In fact Ange Postecoglou’s side have lost more games.
But Tottenham do at least have the Europa League as a dangling carrot.
Newcastle and Spurs want Hammer
Newcastle United are right up where Tottenham and West Ham feel they should be, in the mix for Europe.
As things stand Eddie Howe’s side are fifth in the Premier League table, which will be rewarded with a Champions League place.
Potter this week declared West Ham are the biggest club to have never played in Europe’s top competition.
And that ultimately that is the goal in the long term.
Tottenham will find themselves back in the Champions League if they end up winning the Europa League.

West Ham have reiterated the club has reached the PSR limit.
Potter will offload as many as 11 current Hammers in a bid to do that.
Chief among them is Mohammed Kudus.
West Ham are banking on Kudus being their main money maker this summer to boost Potter’s ability to make signings.
The Ghanaian has an £85m release clause in his contract for Premier League clubs.
Newcastle launch stunning £70m bid for Kudus
But that was for the player’s protection and West Ham can sell him for whatever they wish.
Kudus’ awful form this season – just three goals and two assists all campaign – has seen his value dwindle, along with the list of suitors.
Man City, Arsenal, Liverpool and Saudi clubs have all been heavily linked with the 24-year-old.
However, the Gunners pulled out after the appointment of Andrea Berta and Liverpool no longer need a replacement for Mohamed Salah.
Now it looks like being the Magpies to the rescue for West Ham – in more ways than one.

Because Newcastle are set to launch a stunning £70m West Ham bid to save David Sullivan from Spurs shame.
It was claimed yesterday that Tottenham now want to sign Kudus from West Ham.
Relations are frosty between the West Ham and Spurs boardrooms.
There has been an unofficial transfer embargo between them since Daniel Levy pulled the plug on West Ham signing Emmanuel Adebayor a decade ago and the subsequent battle for the London Stadium.
In an ideal world West Ham would keep Kudus knowing what he can be capable of.
Magpies to save Sullivan from ultimate Spurs shame
But he will have to be sold because of the financial situation and the prospect of Tottenham taking him would not sit easy with Hammers fans at all.
It would lead to further board resentment from fans towards Sullivan and the Hammers board.
Clearly West Ham would be loathe to sell a star player to Spurs.
But if Tottenham were the only option Sullivan may be left with a Hobson’s choice.
Newcastle could save Sullivan from a real humbling at the hands of Levy and Tottenham, though.
Because Ghana Soccernet claim the Magpies want Kudus this summer and will pay between £70-80m for the privilege.
https://www.instagram.com/sixsportsofficial/p/DIRtLdETunT/That will be music to West Ham’s ears given the PSR situation.
But perhaps more so because it saves the Hammers from the prospect of being forced to sell to Tottenham.
If it did come down to a straight shootout between Newcastle and Spurs for the faded star boy, then the Geordies would surely have the edge given their financial muscle for wages.
Not to mention if they go on to secure Champions League football and Spurs don’t.
