West Ham United face the prospect of missing out on Fiorentina defender Nikola Milenkovic this summer.

And the Hammers only have themselves to blame.

Manchester United are ready to ‘invest millions’ into a deal to bring the Serbia international to Old Trafford in the summer according to a report from Calcio Mercato.

If Man United do make a genuine move to sign the 23-year-old centre-back, West Ham can kiss goodbye our chances of bringing him to the London Stadium.

And missing out on the Serb would be a disaster for the Hammers.

West Ham will only have themselves to blame if they miss out on Nikola Milenkovic

Hammers boss David Moyes has been linked with a move to sign the towering 23-year-old centre-back since January by numerous sources including Gianluca Di Marzio and Calcio Mercato.

It was claimed that the East London outfit could have signed Milenkovic on the cheap in January, but the club’s owners failed to see it through (Calcio Mercato).

Calcio Mercato reckon Fiorentina want around €30 million (£25 million) for Milenkovic this summer. That would represent excellent value for West Ham.

In 34 Serie A appearances for Fiorentina this season, the Serbian has scored three goals and registered one assist. In those outings, he has averaged 1.4 tackles, 1.3 interceptions, 3.6 clearances and 1 block per match. The 23-year-old has won an average of 3 aerial duals per game. He also has an 86% pass completion rate from an average of 46.6 passes per match (Who Scored).

West Ham desperately need to sign a top-class centre-back with youth on his side.

Milenkovic would have been the absolutely ideal addition for the Hammers.

And if West Ham miss out on the Serb, we all know where the blame will lie.
