West Ham United have just had a bid rejected for a striker on transfer deadline day.
The Hammers are pushing hard to seal a deal to sign Evan Ferguson from Brighton and Hove Albion.
West Ham head coach Graham Potter will surely be keen to get more signings over the line before 11pm on deadline day though.
The January transfer window has yielded zero signings so far for the Hammers.
That absolutely has to change over the course of the next 12 hours or so.
Potter needs more strength in depth in attack, with or without the imminent arrival of Ferguson.
And he’s obviously doing his level best to bring in some more reinforcements.
West Ham have striker bid rejected on deadline day
The Hammers are clearly still very active in the market.
However, our latest move has been met with resistance it seems.
According to a report from Sky Sports, the Hammers have had a £500,000 bid for Daniel Cummings rejected by Celtic.
West Ham have already agreed terms with Cummings on a pre-contract, but the club are trying to expedite that move by bringing him to the London Stadium now.
Cummings has bagged 24 goals in 26 games for Celtic’s youth team this season (Transfermarkt).
He is obviously a real talent, but is he ready to make a difference for the Hammers in the Premier League now?
I don’t think so.
And with that in mind, I don’t really understand why we’re pushing so hard to bring him to the club now.
Surely the prudent play is to just sign him on a free transfer in the summer?
It remains to be seen whether West Ham go back in with an improved offer for Celtic striker Daniel Cummings on transfer deadline day.
I can’t see it happening though.
