West Ham United have a medical booked as another summer signing moves refreshingly rapidly towards a conclusion.

The Hammers are on the hunt for their third signing of the summer window following the £40m spent on Nayef Aguerd and Alphonse Areola.

And David Moyes has reportedly bid £12m for West Ham supporting midfield ace Flynn Downes at Swansea City (The Athletic).

Downes bears striking similarities to retired Hammers skipper Mark Noble.

So it is fitting that West Ham are looking to replace Noble with 23-year-old Brentwood-born Downes.

Hammers fans are used to seeing their transfer moves turn into long, drawn out sagas.

But West Ham have a medical booked as another summer signing moves refreshingly rapidly towards a conclusion.

According to an evening update from Sky Sports, West Ham have booked a medical in the next 24 hours for Downes to complete his move to the London Stadium.

The transfer looks set to be £9m up front with £3m in add-ons according to various reports.

“West Ham United are in advanced talks with Swansea City over the signing of midfielder Flynn Downes, who will undergo a medical in the next 24 hours,” Sky Sports report.

Sky Sports News has been told a deal thought to be worth £12m is close to being finalised with West Ham increasingly confident they can complete the signing.”

The news follows an update on West Ham’s move for Downes from Sky Sports transfer reporter Dharmesh Sheth.

“West Ham United close to finalising a deal for Swansea City midfielder Flynn Downes,” Sheth said on Twitter.

“Fee under discussion believed to be worth £12m.

“Told West Ham “increasingly confident” of completing move.”

Currently Declan Rice and Tomas Soucek are West Ham’s only senior central midfielders following the retirement of captain Noble and departure of loan flop Alex Kral.

So what better way to replace homegrown Hammer Noble than with a fellow West Ham fan who bears striking similarities to the former skipper in his pomp.

That appears to be what the Irons are trying to do with Downes, a player who fits Moyes’ desired Red Bull style model perfectly.
