West Ham have a great chance to make a big statement by beating Liverpool to the signing of Torino ace Gleison Bremer.
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp wants to bring the Brazilian to Anfield in January (Torino Granata).
Meanwhile, Hammers manager David Moyes is chasing the 24-year-old as well (Calciomercato.it).
At first glance, you may think that Liverpool are favourites to sign Bremer. Klopp’s side are one of the very best in Europe and will be able to offer the Torino ace Champions League football as well as a good chance of winning silverware across all competitions.
It might not be as simple as that as far as the Brazilian’s decision making process is concerned though.
West Ham have great chance to beat Liverpool to Gleison Bremer signing
The Hammers are currently inside the top five, so it’s not as if we have nothing to offer the 24-year-old.
However, the main reason why we believe West Ham can pip the Reds to the Torino ace’s signature is the fact that he will have far more guarantees of regular first-team football at the London Stadium that he would at Anfield.
Liverpool have Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip, Joe Gomez and Ibrahima Konarte all competing for the two centre-back spots. Klopp even has Nat Phillips to call upon, although he might well sell the 24-year-old in January (The Evening Standard).
Meanwhile at West Ham, Moyes currently has Angelo Ogbonna and Kurt Zouma out with long-term injuries.
Craig Dawson and Issa Diop are currently playing in the centre-back positions, so Bremer will fancy his chances of usurping either of those two.
West Ham boss David Moyes likes to play with three centre-backs sometimes as well – something that Klopp never seems to do.
Dawson is 31 as well whilst Ogbonna is 33. Bremer at 24 should be playing regularly at this stage of his career. If he chose to join Liverpool there is a very good chance he would just warm the bench.
Much will depend on how highly the Torino man prioritises regular game-time over a comfortable salary.
The Brazilian is valued at around €18 million (£15 million) according to Calciomercato.it.
That sounds like fantastic value for both Liverpool and the Hammers.
Bremer in fine form
In 15 Serie A outings for Torino this season, the 24-year-old has averaged two tackles, 3.7 interceptions and 4.2 clearances. He has also won an average of 4.1 aerial duals per game (Who Scored).
Standing at 6ft 2in tall and with a great leap, Bremer is very strong in the air. He is also quick along the ground and is a tenacious tackler.
Bremer will be a fantastic signing for whichever club wins the race for his signature in January.
And taking the current situations of both Liverpool and West Ham into account, we believe that the Hammers have a real opportunity to make a big statement in January by bringing Bremer to East London.
