If Tim Steidten has a top priority at West Ham this summer it will be to sign a bona fide striker and Santiago Gimenez is on the shortlist.

West Ham did not spend in the January transfer window for a variety of reasons.

The Hammers had to ship out several players having reached their FFP limit on wages vs turnover.

Reports claimed technical director Tim Steidten was very much trying to get a forward through the door.

But David Moyes did not fancy his pick of Ibrahim Osman – who has since been snapped up by Brighton.

Only Kalvin Phillips – a player in a position many West Ham fans felt the team was well covered – arrived.

And his move has proved disastrous thus far.

West Ham striker search goes on

The manager’s insistence that West Ham did not need to sign a striker because they have Jarrod Bowen has proved a big mistake.

The Hammers were heavily linked with Feyenoord and Mexico striker Santiago Gimenez in the summer and again in January.

In the end he stayed in Holland.

But the 22-year-old – who is good friends with Hammers star and Steidten signing Edson Alvarez – has since made it clear he wants a new challenge in the summer.

Now West Ham have received brilliant news on signing coveted striker Gimenez but it’ll cost them.

Hammers want Gimenez and Feyenoord plan to sell

According to a Turkish ESPN, Goal and TNT Sports transfer reporter, Feyenoord are planning to sell Gimenez in the summer.

And West Ham will are one of several clubs interested in signing the striker, who has scored 22 goals and laid on five assists in 25 starts for the Dutch club so far this season.

The Hammers will have to cough up big dough, though. Because Feyenoord are said to be demanding over £50m for Gimenez.

“Feyenoord are planning to sell Mexican striker Santiago Gimenez for over €60 million (£51m) in the summer transfer window,” it is claimed.

“Sporting CP, SL Benfica, Atletico Madrid, Tottenham, West Ham, Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal could make a move for the Mexican striker in the summer transfer window.”

Form will concern Steidten

Given it is the start of a new three-year FFP cycle and the sales of Declan Rice and Gianluca Scamacca to name but two in the last couple of windows, West Ham should have the money to spend.

West Ham were clearly be hugely encouraged by claims Feyenoord are planning to sell.

But Steidten may want to monitor Gimenez closely between now and the end of the season before making a decision.

Because, like West Ham, Giminez is struggling in 2024 after an excellent first half to the season.

And his manager Arne Slot recently admitted he is expecting more from the striker – as reported by AS.

West Ham have also recently been linked with a £50m move for Bayer Leverkusen forward Victor Boniface.
