The 30-year-old hitman is out of contract with Crystal Palace this summer and is set to leave Selhurst Park on a free transfer.
Now, Hammers boss David Moyes desperately needs to bolster his centre-forward ranks at the London Stadium this summer.
The problem for Moyes is that he will have limited funds to play with in the transfer market.
The Scot needs to sign at least two strikers. Whilst one of those will probably be a marquee addition, the other one will likely have to be a free transfer or a loan deal.

The Crystal Palace hitman is out of contract this summer. And we could do a lot worse than signing the 30-year-old on a free transfer.
The former Aston Villa and Liverpool forward scored 10 goals in 30 Premier League games this season (Transfermarkt).
He is a big and strong target man.
Benteke is great when playing with his back to goal and he would provide us with a totally different option through the middle. And a cheap one at that!
