According to a report from L’Equipe (Print edition, Saturday January 2nd, page 6), Nice are interested in signing West Ham ace Issa Diop.

The 23-year-old Hammers ace has regressed badly over the past 12 months. He just doesn’t seem to be the same player anymore.

Some West Ham fans took to Twitter in reaction to the report claiming that Nice could sign Issa Diop this month…

The French centre-back joined the Hammers from Toulouse in the summer of 2018 for around £25 million (The Express).

Diop has all of the attributes needed to succeed at the very highest level. He stands at 6ft 4in tall and is commanding in the air.

The former Toulouse ace is quick along the ground and is strong in the tackle.

His decision making and anticipation needs to improve, however.

Issa Diop is a real talent but his confidence is rock bottom at the moment. It must be hard for him sitting on the bench watching his fellow defenders play so well for West Ham.

Perhaps he needs a move away from the London Stadium in order to reinvigorate his career.

Selling Diop would be the wrong call, however. The Frenchman could still go on to become a truly top class defender.

So perhaps a loan move away from east London would be the ideal solution for West Ham and the player himself.

Having said that, if we receive a bid in excess of £30 million for Issa Diop, it will be incredibly hard to turn down considering our current financial plight.
