West Ham are one of several clubs who have been linked with a move for Raheem Sterling.

On Wednesday, it was confirmed that Sterling is now a free agent after leaving Chelsea by mutual consent.

The 31-year-old has been a fine player over the years and is looking to rebuild his career after a miserable time of things at Stamford Bridge.

Clearly, any club who sign him will be taking a risk. The former Manchester City star has barely featured in what feels like an age, and he did not cover himself in glory while on loan at Arsenal.

Still, West Ham have been linked with Sterling and that makes sense. Nuno Espirito Santo needs all the help he can get right now, and moving to a London club might suit the player himself.

After the latest Sterling development broke, Hammers News asked their subscribers on TalkingPoints whether or not they’d be on board with it.

West Ham fans do not want to sign Raheem Sterling

The response was rather telling.

Even supporters of a club battling against relegation do not want to sign this version of Sterling, a four-time Premier League winner available on a free transfer.

That’s not to say that Sterling cannot come again. He’s been a brilliant player at club level and for England too and still has years on his side.

If someone told you they wanted to sign Raheem Sterling on a free, what would you say back? 🤔

Based on the current situation, however, West Ham fans are against the potential idea.

“We’re desperate for a CB and a DM. I’m sick of seeing us give up two goals immediately after we take the lead. Not a striker,” said one fan.

Another added: “Not really for us and as we still need to bolster the defence.”

“No thanks. Well past his best,” was another comment.

“I would not want him at the club even on a free,” said another fan. “Anyhow it wouldn’t be a freebie because his wages would be ridiculous, and for a player with no end product that would be criminal.”

Another fan added: “No. He wasn’t great in his prime. Goals to shot ratio was about 1/10. Can’t think he has improved.”

One supporter said: “No we got all the attacking players we need, use the money to get [Charlie] Cresswell.”

Raheem Sterling’s record against West Ham United

It will be fascinating to see where Sterling goes next, whether that’s in the Premier League or beyond.

He is a big-name player and has a proven track record and perhaps just needs another move to relight his career.

Interestingly, Sterling’s goal record against West Ham is rather impressive.

In 22 games against the Irons over the course of his career, Sterling has scored eight goals while registering as many assists.

He’s only actually scored more goals against Southampton, Newcastle, Watford and Bournemouth over the course of his career.
