West Ham United are on the hunt for new signings but Raheem Sterling may not be one of them despite his newfound availability.
Sterling has been linked with a move to West Ham and he’s a name that will likely feature prominently across gossip columns and beyond during the final few days of the transfer window.
While the 31-year-old doesn’t technically need to sign for a new club before the deadline after his release from Chelsea was confirmed on Wednesday night, he’ll no doubt be a talking point.
If someone told you they wanted to sign Raheem Sterling on a free, what would you say back? 🤔
Explain why in the comments 👇(I'm going for yes)
West Ham would represent something of a logical move. Sterling could perhaps rebuild his career at a Premier League club and, crucially, one based in his home of London.
He’d offer experience and options, something Nuno Espirito Santo has been keen to recruit this month.
Still, it seems remaining in the English capital is not quite the deal-breaker it was once was for Sterling.
Raheem Sterling open to leaving London after West Ham interest
That’s because, according to Jacob Steinberg of The Guardian, the former Manchester City forward is open to expanding his horizons.
He has previously played in the North West of course during his time at both City and Liverpool, the club with which he made his name.
The report does suggest that West Ham are among the clubs to have shown interest in the forward this month, along with Crystal Palace and Fulham.
However, it’s now believed that Sterling is open to leaving London in a bid to rebuild his career.
Summerville, Todibo and Mavropanos are firing at last!
Is your view of the Tim Steidten era changing? Or has the damage been done? 💸
Where Raheem Sterling could go next after Chelsea exit
According to The Sun, Napoli are one of the clubs interested in Sterling.
That, if he is up for leaving London, might represent a more tempting move.
Still, the idea of West Ham signing a player like Sterling shouldn’t be discounted.
Yes, it’s not been a good few years for him but there is little doubting his quality when he’s at his best.
The experience he’d bring to the fold would surely count for something, after all.
Sterling could have a big impact at West Ham if they do take the risk.
