West Ham boss David Moyes wants to bring his old favourite Adnan Januzaj back to the Premier League in January according to a report from Calciomercato.
And some Hammers fans have taken to Twitter in reaction to the speculation.
This seems like it could be one that really splits the West Ham fanbase.
Moyes gave the 26-year-old his Manchester United debut way back in 2013 whilst he was in charge at Old Trafford.
The West Ham manager then brought Januzaj to Sunderland on a season-long loan in 2016 during his stint in charge of the Black Cats.
So the Scot is clearly a very big fan of the 13-capped Belgium International.
Moyes’s priorities in the January transfer window should be to sign a top-class striker and an established centre-back.
It could be argued that we need another attacking midfielder/winger as well with Said Benrahma set to miss up to 10 games when he heads off to the the Africa Cup of Nations with Algeria after the new year.
Januzaj has been described as a brilliant player by Manchester United legend Paul Scholes (talkSPORT).
And on his day, he is extremely exciting to watch. The problem is that he is not very consistent. And his stats this season make for pretty grim reading, with just two goals and two assists to his name in 25 games (Transfermarkt).
West Ham fans react to Adnan Januzaj January transfer claim
The main point here is that Moyes should be putting all of his energy into signing a striker and a central defender. It’s as simple as that.
If there is money and time remaining, however, the addition of someone like Januzaj wouldn’t be a bad idea.
The Sun claimed last year that the Belgian was available for around £25 million. He’s out of contract in the summer at Sociedad, however, so should be available for a bargain fee in January.
Perhaps we should be targeting someone who is more productive in the final third though?
