West Ham could now face competition from Tottenham for Burnley centre-back James Tarkowski according to a report from 90min.

Centre-back is an area where Hammers boss David Moyes desperately needs to strengthen this summer.

Fabian Balbuena has been released and Angelo Ogbonna and Craig Dawson are 33 and 31 respectively.

It seems as though Spurs boss Nuno Espirito Santo is in the same boat.

Tottenham were incredibly weak defensively last season. Toby Alderweireld has been linked with an exit (Daily Mail) whilst the jury is still out on Davinson Sanchez.

West Ham and Tottenham to battle it out for James Tarkowski?

90min reckons that Spurs could be set to battle it out with the Hammers for the 28-year-old Clarets ace.

Tarkowski is absolutely perfect for Moyes’s setup at the London Stadium.

The Independent suggested that the Scot is desperate to bring the Burnley defender to West Ham this summer.

Claret and Hugh then claimed that Tarkowski could cost as much as £20 million this summer.

In 36 Premier League appearances for Burnley last season, the 28-year-old averaged 1.8 tackles, 1.2 interceptions, 4.4 clearances and 1.2 blocks per game. He also won an average of 4.6 aerial duels per match (Who Scored).

Those really are some very impressive numbers.

At 28, Tarky is at a great age for a centre-back. He would improve West Ham’s back-line no end.

The Hammers could be very disappointed, however, with Nuno allegedly keen to bring him to Tottenham.

Let’s hope that the West Ham board are prepared to back Moyes to the hilt this summer. And if the Scot truly does want to sign Tarkowski, there is no reason not to go out and get him signed up as soon as possible.
