West Ham United are reportedly very keen to sign Rennes centre-back Nayef Aguerd in the summer transfer window.
The Daily Mail claims that Hammers boss David Moyes has discussed the possibility of signing the 26-year-old with the board whilst L’Equipe reckon that Aguerd has now ‘won over’ the East London outfit.
Central defence is clearly an area at the London Stadium where Moyes wants to strengthen considerably in the summer.
Angelo Ogbonna is still out with an ACL problem and is will be 34 before the end of the month. He is also officially out of contract at the end of the season with no word yet as to whether he will be offered a new deal.
Meanwhile, Craig Dawson has just turned 32 and the jury is still very much out on Issa Diop.
The addition of a top-class centre-back will be an absolute must for the Hammers this summer and it seems though we could be on track to get a truly elite defender through the door…
West Ham eyeing move to sign Aguerd
L’Equipe claims that the Moroccan has ‘won over’ David Moyes and the Scot is very keen to bring him to the London Stadium before the start of next season.
And what a superb signing he would be for the Hammers.
The 26-year-old has been described as a brilliant defender by Get Football News France.
And he’s left-footed so is the ideal long-term replacement for Ogbonna.
In 30 Ligue 1 appearances for Rennes so far this season, Aguerd has averaged one interception, one tackle and 4.1 clearances per game. He has also won 3.1 aerial duels per match (Who Scored).
The Morocco international has made 71.7 passes per game on average and recorded an impressive completion rate of 89% (Who Scored).
Aguerd possesses exceptional ball-playing ability as well and this would help increase our resistance to be pressed from the opposition.
He could be available for just £17 million this summer according to GFFN.
And with West Ham reportedly keen to sign Aguerd, we think there is a good chance that we will see the Rennes ace playing in Claret and Blue next season.
