West Ham eyeing last-gasp January window swoop for Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah

West Ham are eyeing up a loan move to sign Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah before the January transfer window slams shut.

That’s according to a report from 90min who claim that the Arsenal hitman is a target for the Hammers as well as Newcastle.

Gunners forward Nketiah is out of contract at the Emirates in the summer, so West Ham will have to offer the north London outfit a decent loan fee in order to tempt them into doing business. Otherwise it won’t be worth their time.

Mikel Arteta wants to keep the 22-year-old striker at Arsenal but he won’t be staying at the Emirates according to The Daily Mail.

With Nketiah’s Gunners future up in the air, numerous Premier League clubs are allegedly sniffing around eyeing up a potential swoop for the young attacker. And one of those clubs appear to be the Hammers…

West Ham eyeing January deadline day Nketiah swoop

90min claims that the Hammers want to sign Eddie on loan. With his contract close to expiring, however, this seems like a fairly strange move.

If Arsenal are demanding a small fee for the striker, then why not just pay it, rather than paying a loan fee?

Either way though, bringing Nketiah to the London Stadium on whatever kind of deal would be better than signing nobody at all in the January transfer window.

The London-born striker has plenty of pace and movement and is a very hard worker. It’s not all straightforward though.

The Gunners hitman has absolutely no kind of physical presence through the middle, and his goalscoring record is fairly poor to say the least with just 23 goals in 84 senior games to his name (Transfermarkt).

There are definite warning signs for West Ham. We think Nketiah has great potential, however. If he does manage to bulk up and improve upon his finishing, he could still be a top class Premier League player.

The young Londoner certainly has the raw ingredients needed to make an impact at the highest level.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is clearly a fan. He described Nketiah as ‘extraordinary’ last season (Metro). So the 22-year-old obviously has something about him.

And let’s not forget, David Moyes has a great track record of getting the best out of underperforming forward players.

Nketiah would certainly provide us with an option that we don’t currently have off the bench.

The 22-year-old has so much talent and potential. He just needs to work on the areas where he is currently lacking, i.e the physical side of his game.

And if West Ham manage to pick the Arsenal striker up on a cheap deal before the January transfer window slams shut, then we think that would be a shrewd move for us.
