West Ham eyeing January swoop for talented £25m youngster Vitinha

West Ham are now interested in signing Braga striker Vitinha in the January transfer window according to a report from Portuguese outlet O Jogo.

Hammers boss David Moyes is well-known to be on the look-out for a new striker this month.

West Ham currently have Michail Antonio as our only option through the middle as a recognised senior striker.

And Moyes absolutely must bring more quality competition and cover for the 31-year-old to the London Stadium before the January transfer window slams shut.

It seems as though the Scot may well have his eye on someone but very much with the future in mind…

West Ham eye January Vitinha swoop

O Jogo reckon that the young Portuguese striker is firmly on the Hammers’ radar this month.

We could face competition from the likes of Fiorentina, Atalanta and Bayer Leverkusen for his signature though.

In my opinion, Vitinha would be a very exciting addition for West Ham.

The 21-year-old has been on fire in Portugal this season, bagging 10 goals and three assists in just 16 games for brags so far (Transfermarkt).

He is very technically gifted, is an exceptional finisher and leads the line very well either on his own or with a partner.

According to the Record (print edition January 4th, page 18), Vitinha has a €30 million (£25 million) release clause inserted into his contract with SC Braga.

That is a serious amount of cash to be paying for someone so young though, it must be said.

Vitinha has no experience of playing in English football and may find the physical side of the game in the Premier League difficult to acclimatise to.

West Ham manager Moyes absolutely has to get his transfer business 100% spot on this month.

We have a genuine chance to make a big splash in the Premier League and in Europe this season.

And the addition of a couple of top-class signings will be absolutely vital to our hopes of achieving any kind of real success.

So there will undoubtedly be questions as to whether the Hammers should be signing a more proven and already established centre-forward.

The Portuguese youngster is a very special talent though. And sometimes you have to take risks.

Whether the West Ham board will be prepared to take this one, however, remains to be seen.
