West Ham may well end up missing out on Ross Barkley to Newcastle.

We think that’s a good thing, however.

The Athletic claims that the Magpies are trying to sign the Chelsea play-maker.

That comes after the Hammers were linked with a swoop for the 27-year-old earlier this week (90 Min).

It was recently reported that Chelsea will demand as much as £30 million for Barkley (The Express & Star).

That is so much money for a player who has underperformed for so long now.

West Ham should let Newcastle have Barkley

We think that David Moyes could and should be setting his sights a whole lot higher than the 27-year-old Chelsea man.

Since the start of the 2017/18 campaign, Barkley has missed 322 days of action and 64 games through injury (Transfermarkt).

During that period of time, the 27-year-old has bagged only 14 goals and 12 assists in 111 games.

Those numbers certainly don’t justify the alleged £30m fee needed to prise him away from Stamford Bridge.

Let’s hope that Newcastle boss Steve Bruce manages to bring him to St James’ Park.
