West Ham have decided to continue paying the wages of one of their players despite him leaving in January on loan.

The Hammers are still very active in the transfer window and want to get deals done ahead of the transfer deadline.

However, they are also expected to part ways with a few of their players, either on loan or on a permanent basis.

West Ham paying a part of James Ward-Prowse’s wages despite Burnley move

James Ward-Prowse has been out of favour at the London Stadium under Nuno Espirito Santo.

The Portuguese had been leaving him out of all his matchday squads, but recently decided to include him.

However, that proved to be fruitless as he eventually did part ways with the club, joining Burnley on loan until the end of the season.

Why do YOU think it didn’t work out for James Ward-Prowse at West Ham?

The English midfielder’s contract at the London Stadium does not run out until June 2027, so the Hammers believe that he could prove himself out on loan before they cash in on him in the summer.

According to Claret and Hugh’s Sean Whetstone, Burnley will cover 70 per cent of the midfielder’s wages, which is around £2million.

The other 30 per cent, which is around £825,000, will be paid by the Hammers.

Will Ward-Prowse play another game for West Ham?

It has been evident for a while that both Ward-Prowse and Nuno do not see eye to eye with each other.

In the event of relegation, there is a possibility that the Portuguese manager gets sacked and the midfielder is asked to stay on to help the team get promoted again.

As a lot of the first-team players will leave, it is important for the Hammers to retain some of their players who will be among the best players in the Championship.

Should they avoid relegation and Nuno is still the manager, the 31-year-old will almost certainly be sold by the London Stadium outfit.

As things stand, there is about a 50 per cent chance that Ward-Prowse plays another game for the Irons.

However, the priority right now is on doing everything possible to avoid relegation this term.
