West Ham United consultant Jimmy Walker has told Hammers boss David Moyes that £10m man is a steal this summer.
West Ham reportedly have an option to make Alphonse Areola’s signing from PSG permanent for between £10-11m (Jeunes Footeux).
Quite why West Ham did not move quickly to do just that in January – or at least get a concrete deal in place for the summer – only Moyes will know.
And if the club were yet to be convinced despite a string of impressive performances from Areola for West Ham, THAT save against Sevilla should have sealed the deal.
But recent reports have claimed the Hammers are facing the very real threat of losing out to Areola’s former club Fulham for the France international goalkeeper this summer.
Football League World have claimed that when the Cottagers are promoted to the Premier League, they will attempt to bring Areola back to Craven Cottage.
Website 90Min have since reported that West Ham’s hopes of re-signing Areola could be scuppered by Fulham’s interest.
West Ham fans have really taken to Areola and will be angry if the club let him slip through their fingers.
And now West Ham consultant Jimmy Walker has told Moyes that £10m man is a steal this summer.
Former fans’ favourite Walker returned to West Ham as U18s goalkeeping consultant back in February (whufc.com).
And he said on Twitter that Areola is an absolute bargain.
Walker is spot on. And the club should heed his advice.
Areola has proved himself during a loan spell designed solely for that purpose.
The spectacular save against Sevilla was as good as a goal in the context of that last 16 tie.
His kicking, with both feet, is immense. At a towering 6ft 5in, the West Ham loan star has superb presence and he has great experience at top clubs including PSG and Real Madrid.
Having just turned 29 he could and should be West Ham’s long-term successor for Lukasz Fabianski.
West Ham must activate their option. Areola is an absolute bargain at twice the price!
