West Ham are clearly the unnamed Premier League club fighting the Saints for rapid striker Terem Moffi as bid is rejected.

David Moyes admitted last week that he has changed his stance over January transfers and is now looking to be active in the window.

Besides their obvious goalscoring issues, Moyes may well have been forced into a rethink with the likes of relegation rivals Southampton already making signings such as the capture of talented Croatian Mislav Orsic – who scored a beauty against West Ham for Dinamo Zagreb last season.

One thing is for certain West Ham and Southampton both need to start scoring more goals if they are to avoid a disastrous relegation.

According to Foot Mercato, flee-footed Lorient forward Moffi has already attracted offers from Southampton for around 10 million Euros (£8.5m).

That was rejected by Lorient who want more money for the left-footed Nigerian striker.

West Ham are clearly the unnamed Premier League club fighting Saints for rapid striker Moffi as a bid is rejected.

According to reports from Mohammed Toubache-Ter, the Nigeria international has two offers on the table from Premier League clubs.

Given the confirmation that Southampton have seen a bid rejected, it is safe to say they are one of those clubs.

The report states the identity of the other Premier League club in the race for Moffi is ‘unknown’.

But it is clearly West Ham. Not only have Moyes and head of recruitment Rob Newman made Ligue 1 a key area to do business, but the Hammers were linked with an interest in Moffi by The Daily Mail at the weekend.

According to Get French Football News, Lorient want around 30 million Euros (£26.4m) for the 23-year-old talent.

Encouragingly for West Ham and Southampton, Foot Mercato claims Moffi wants to leave Lorient but he will not force a move.

The super fast forward has been one of the standout strikers in Ligue 1 this season and GFFN predicts interest will ramp up in the remaining weeks of the window.

So what would Moffi bring to West Ham or the Saints?

Well in a word – PACE – and lots of it.

Moffi has an excellent record of 33 goals in 86 games for Lorient including 10 in 14 this season. That’s only five less than the entire West Ham team has managed in the club’s opening 18 league games.

He also has three in nine games for Nigeria so far. Moffi actually join the Buckswood Football Academy at Hastings, East Sussex when he was 17 so should adapt quickly to living back in England.
