West Ham could make a big statement by beating Everton to the signing of Manchester United ace Jesse Lingard this summer.

And the fact that the Hammers should be favourites for the 28-year-old’s signature is a sign of how times have changed.

The Toffees have been head and shoulders above us as a football club over the past 20 years or so.

West Ham have finished above Everton in the league table only five times since the turn of the century.

Since David Moyes has returned to the Hammers, however, we seem to have overtaken the Toffees.

We finished above them in the table last season and we are definitely a better footballing side then Rafa Benitez’s team. Now is the time to prove just how far we have come as a football club, however.

West Ham beating Everton to Lingard would be a sign of the times

The 28-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan at the London Stadium.

West Ham have been linked with a move to sign him permanently but Everton want him as well according to the Daily Star.

Surely we are in the box seat to sign Jesse though. He absolutely loved his time in East London and David Moyes is clearly a very big fan of the 28-year-old.

Lingard will be the man at the London Stadium. The fans loved him and vice versa.

The 29-capped England international is available for around £20 million this summer according to The Express. That would represent very good value for the Manchester United man.

And if West Ham beat Everton to his signature it will be further evidence that we are now in a strong position to finish above the Merseyside outfit in the league for a consistent period of time ahead.
