West Ham boss David Moyes should use £50m duo as ace card sweeteners to beat Arsenal to Leeds star Raphinha

West Ham boss David Moyes should use £50m duo as ace card sweeteners to beat Arsenal to Leeds star Raphinha.

West Ham have been linked with a move for Leeds ace Raphinha having tried to sign the Brazilian during the January transfer window.

The likes of Sky Sports claimed that the Hammers wanted to sign the Leeds attacker.

And a number of sources reported West Ham saw a bid of £50m turned down by Leeds during the last knockings of the window (90 Min).

It is easy to see why Leeds rejected West Ham’s advances because they were fighting relegation and Raphinha was key to their survival – worth hundreds of millions to the club.

Arsenal are said to be seriously interested too with Football365 claiming the Gunners have submitted an official bid to Leeds for the West Ham target.

Leeds are said to want to £55-60m for Raphinha and have privately assured him he will be allowed to leave if that figure is met.

That may be a big ask for West Ham on a single player given David Moyes has to sign another six players with what remains of his summer budget having signed defender Nayef Aguerd for £30m this week.

But West Ham should use £50m duo as ace card sweeteners to beat Arsenal to Leeds star Raphinha.

Moyes is willing to sell both Said Benrahma and Nikola Vlasic this summer according to reports.

While some West Ham fans want to see Benrahma remain – it is difficult to argue Raphinha would not be a serious upgrade on the Algerian.

Benrahma scored eight goals and laid on six assists in the Premier League for West Ham last season.

Raphinha managed 11 goals and three assists in an inferior side.

Vlasic simply has not adjusted to the Premier League as Moyes would have hoped. But in his natural central midfield playmaker position he did show his talent on occasion.

Swap deals are becoming increasingly rare it seems.

But West Ham should use duo Benrahma and Vlasic as makeweights in a deal to try and beat Arsenal to Raphinha.

Let’s face it Leeds would benefit hugely from a player of Benrahma’s talent – and wanted him under Marcelo Bielsa before he joined West Ham.

Vlasic, if used in his proper position by Leeds, could prove a revelation at Elland Road if given a proper run in the side.

Benrahma cost West Ham £25m while Vlasic cost £26m in a deal which could have reached as much as £33m.

West Ham could offer around £25m cash on top to blow Arsenal’s straight cash offer out of the water.

Jesse Marsch may be the perfect manager to get the best out of Benrahma and Vlasic.

The Hammers may need to get creative in the transfer market to stretch Moyes’ budget as far as possible.

And beating one of their direct rivals, Arsenal, to a top player would be a huge coup.
