West Ham boss David Moyes almost signed Belgian star Thomas Foket on deadline day as well as Ola Aina and it begs a big question.

In the end there were no significant deadline day moves in or out at West Ham involving first team players.

But it wasn’t for the want of trying on Moyes’ part according to reports.

West Ham saw a bid for Torino right-back Ola Aina rejected while a move for defender Jan Bednarek failed to materialise too.

Craig Dawson and Harrison Ashby both remained – likely reluctantly – as West Ham ended a superb window having made eight signings to the tune of around £180m including add-ons.

There were also attempts to sign another player on deadline day, though, it seems.

West Ham boss Moyes failed with late window move for Belgian star Thomas Foket as well as Aina and it begs a big question.

Hammers News recently spoke to Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri about West Ham’s move for Hans Vanaken.

And Tavolieri has revealed that the Hammers tried to sign another Belgium international on deadline day – right-back Foket.

The 27-year-old plays for Stade Reims in Ligue 1 and has 10 caps for Belgium.

West Ham boss David Moyes almost signed Belgian star Thomas Foket on deadline day as well as Ola Aina and it begs big question

“Thomas Foket almost joined West Ham United,” Tavolieri revealed on Twitter.

“The Hammers were willing to offer 3.5M€ (£3million). The right side of Diables Rouges could (have) signed a three-year contract with an option at West Ham. Refusal of Stade Reims who demanded 6M€ (£5.2million).”

Moyes’ attempt to sign Foket, having also tried to sign Aina, really does beg a big question over the right-back position long-term at West Ham.

On the face of it, right-back is an area where West Ham appear pretty well stocked with Vladimir Coufal, Ben Johnson and swashbuckling young talent Harrison Ashby.

But Ben Johnson is proving to be injury-prone, there are doubts over whether 30-year-old Coufal can get back to the brilliant form of his first season and Ashby, unproven at the top level, seemed to believe his future would be better elsewhere judging by events of the window.

Moyes is clearly eyeing a new right-back and it may be that is one of his first ports of call come January.

And Foket could well be back on the agenda.
