West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur could be set for an intense summer battle to sign an English striker.
Julen Lopetegui and Ange Postecoglou are clearly keen to bolster their centre-forward ranks at West Ham and Tottenham respectively in the summer transfer window.
The Hammers’ need for a striker is more urgent than Spurs’ though. Michail Antonio has been a great player for us over the past nine years, but he’s a shadow of his former self now.
Lopetegui is said to be prioritising bringing a proven centre-forward to the London Stadium this summer, and he seems to be intent on doing exactly that.
If the Spaniard is successful in bringing an elite striker to the club, West Ham will be a real handful for every team we face next season.
Il Messaggero claim that West Ham are battling Tottenham in the race for Roma striker Tammy Abraham.
And here’s the kicker – he could be available for as little as £18.6 million this summer – an absolute bargain in this day and age.
Signing a proven centre-forward in the current market for a reasonable fee is nigh on an impossible thing to do.
The 26-year-old has experienced horrendous injury problems over the past year or so but still, for that money surely he’s worth a punt.

West Ham battling Tottenham to sign Tammy Abraham
The former Chelsea front-man looks all set to move back to the Premier League after his three-year hiatus out in Italy.
The Hammers and Spurs are both battling it out for his signature, and despite his recent injury problems, the new fee being quoted by the Italian media surely means it will be worth taking a punt on him.
He has scored 130 goals in in 339 career appearances for club and country (Transfermarkt) – a very impressive return.
Abraham is incredibly strong in the air, possesses impressive pace and strength and is a very good finisher.
However, we can’t simply ignore his recent injury woes.
The 11-capped England international has missed 301 days of football since rupturing his ACL when playing for Roma back in 2023 (Transfermarkt).
That’s obviously not ideal, but the chance to sign Tammy Abraham for just £18.6 million really is one that West Ham should snap up in my opinion.
If he hits the ground running and maintains his fitness for a couple of years at least, he’ll be a superb signing for us.
On the other hand, if the 26-year-old does struggle with injuries, it’s not like we’ve had to pay an extortionate amount to take a punt on him is it?
