It seems as if the brief Mateus Fernandes era will come to an end no matter what happens to West Ham United in the relegation battle.

Former Southampton midfielder Fernandes has been a brilliant signing for West Ham United, despite their wide struggles this season.

Oh wow 👀 How has Tottenham’s draw with Leeds made YOU feel about the relegation battle?!

This weirdly feels like a boost?

Indeed, Fernandes has established himself as one of the Premier League’s leading midfielders during his brief time here in east London, stepping up in importance since the January departure of Lucas Paqueta.

Manchester United want to sign Fernandes and it seems as if West Ham know what’s coming this summer.

West Ham accept that Fernandes will be sold

According to The Athletic, the Hammers have accepted the fact that Fernandes will be sold this summer regardless of what division they find themselves in.

There is said to be acceptance that Fernandes – who arrived from around £38million from Southampton last summer – will be cashed in on to fund a squad rebuild at the London Stadium.

How do you feel about the decision now the VAR audio has been released? 😬

What was the correct decision? Goal, no goal or penalty? 🤔

West Ham expect to make a huge profit on the Portugal international, although their negotiating position will clearly be a lot stronger if they stay in the Premier League. There is no release clause in his contract.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side are two points from safety with two games to play.

How much money West Ham want for Mateus Fernandes this summer

Hammers News understands that West Ham value Fernandes at around £84million

That would represent a significant profit, although it’s unclear if they would be in a position to demand that should they get relegated.

Either way, Fernandes is in high-demand for good reason. It is a shame that, as with Declan Rice, the club cannot build around a player of his talent for years to come.

Fernandes has been an excellent addition to the ranks and while selling him would make sense on the financial front, it will be a shame to see him leave all too quickly.
