West Ham United are allegedly keen to bring Gerard Deulofeu back to the Premier League in the summer transfer window.

That’s according to a report from Calciomercato who claim that the Hammers have actually made official contact with Udinese about signing the Spaniard in the summer.

West Ham manager David Moyes has so much work to do in the transfer market this summer.

The Hammers’ need for at least one top-class striker, an established centre-back and an elite left-back has been well-documented already.

It could be argued that we need to strengthen in the wide attacking areas as well, however, with Andriy Yarmolenko soon to be out of contract.

And it seems as though David Moyes has someone in particular in mind ahead of the summer transfer window…

West Ham eye move to bring Gerard Deulofeu back to the Premier League in the summer

Calciomercato claims that the Hammers have already initiated contact with Udinese about potentially signing the 27-year-old winger in the summer.

Now, Moyes obviously has to get his priority signings done and dusted first and foremost.

The Scot has to strengthen his centre-forward, centre-back and left-back departments before bolstering anywhere else. And if he manages to get those signings wrapped up first, we believe that Deulofeu could be a very smart addition for West Ham.

The four-capped Spain international joined Watford from Barcelona in the summer of 2018 for around £11.5 million (BBC).

And the fleet-footed winger went on to rack up 17 goals and 11 assists in 70 games for the Hornets before leaving for Udinese in the summer of 2021 (Transfermarkt).

The Serie A outfit paid around £14 million to sign him according to Football Italia. And Deulofeu has been a huge hit in Italy, bagging seven goals and two assists in 22 league games so far (Transfermarkt).

He is highly experienced and has the ability to change a game with a moment of brilliance. The Spaniard possesses exceptional technique and has high energy levels.

Deulofeu can play anywhere along the front-line and that kind of versatility will undoubtedly appeal to Moyes.

Calciomercato claims that AC Milan want to sign the former Barcelona, Everton and Watford man as well though. So West Ham certainly won’t have things all our own way in the race for the Spaniard’s signature.

Hopefully the fact that we’ve made our move early will stand us in good stead. Deulofeu would be a brilliant signing for West Ham, albeit not a priority one.
