West Ham all set for big £50m Champions League striker scouting mission, report claims

West Ham are allegedly set to perform a scouting mission on Benfica striker Darwin Nunez in the Champions League tomorrow night.

That’s according to a report from Correio da Manha (print edition April 4th, page 7) who claims that the Hammers will have scouts in attendance for the Benfica vs Liverpool Champions League clash tomorrow night.

West Ham manager David Moyes desperately needs to bring a new striker to the London Stadium in the summer.

Michail Antonio is currently our only option through the middle and that just isn’t acceptable for a club with aspirations of achieving success both domestically and on the continent.

With that in mind, signing an elite centre-forward should be Moyes’s absolute number one priority in the summer transfer window. And it seems as though Benfica vs Liverpool tomorrow is a game that the Scot and his staff will be keeping a very close eye on.

West Ham set for Champions League striker scouting mission

Correio da Manha (print edition April 4th, page 7) claims that the Hammers scouts will be watching Darwin Nunez in action for Benfica against Liverpool in the Champions League at the Estádio do Sport Lisboa e Benfica.

West Ham have been keen to sign the 22-year-old centre-forward for quite some time now according to A Bola.

A Bola claim that the Uruguay international could be available for around £50 million this summer.

And if Moyes brings him to the London Stadium for that kind of fee we would be absolutely delighted – he’d be a sensational addition for West Ham.

Nunez’s playing style is quintessentially South American. He is a tenacious presser, plays with real physicality and has real technical ability. The 22-year-old seems to be ideally suited for the Premier League what with its intense and robust nature.

Nunez has bagged 27 goals in 34 games for Benfica this season (Transfermarkt). He’s about as prolific as they come.

The 22-year-old is fast, great in the air and has absolutely everything that West Ham need in a striker.

Hopefully the Uruguayan striker produces the goods in the Champions League tomorrow night and really impresses the Hammers scouts.

Nunez would be the absolutely ideal addition for West Ham this summer and we think £50 million is more than a fair price to pay for the Benfica ace’s services.
