West Ham United want to sign Inter Milan midfielder Christian Eriksen in January according to a report from Eurosport.

The 28-year-old Danish legend has struggled in Italy since joining from Tottenham in January for around £17 million (BBC Sport).

The same month David Moyes took over at West Ham for a second time and has transformed the east Londoners.

Hammers in shock link to former Spurs star Eriksen

But West Ham are short in key areas including central midfield and up front.

Beyond Declan Rice and Tomas Soucek West Ham only have ageing captain Mark Noble as realistic back-up in the middle of the park.

And that is a real concern for Hammers fans going into the busy winter period of a truncated season.

Eriksen is a class act, as he proved during six years with Spurs.

Moyes short in central midfield but fans scoffed at claim

Many West Ham fans scoffed at Eurosport‘s report when he was linked with the Hammers last week.

His wages alone – reported to be a staggering £260,000 per week at Inter (Guardian) – would surely put paid to any chance of West Ham signing Eriksen.

Of course there was always the possibility of a loan move to West Ham.

But Inter want to recoup some money. And if there was any doubt this was a pipe dream for Moyes, a new update will kill any hopes dead.

Eriksen update shows West Ham never stood a chance if interest was genuine

That’s after The Daily Star and Manchester Evening News revealed the reported West Ham target favours a move to Paris Saint-Germain over other interested clubs including Manchester United.

According to The Star, Eriksen does not want to return to the Premier League “with his tail between his legs” and would prefer a move to PSG.

With the January window two weeks away, silly season seems to be getting into its rythm.

West Ham do look set to be active in the transfer window, though.

That’s according to West Ham insiders Claret & Hugh – who have direct links to owners David Sullivan and David Gold.

C&H claims West Ham will use instalments to help fund a move for wantaway Bournemouth striker Josh King.
