The Sky Sports pundit doesn’t believe it will happen, however.

West Ham play host to Liverpool tomorrow.

The Hammers will fancy their chances with Reds trio Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip all unavailable for selection at the London Stadium tomorrow.

Many Liverpool fans want to see Jurgen Klopp bolster his backline at Anfield before the transfer window slams shut on Monday.

The 22-year-old West Ham ace has been quite simply brilliant for David Moyes’s side this season.

In fact, he has been superb for the last two-and-a-half seasons.

Tim Sherwood suggested that the 13-capped England international could be a smart addition for Liverpool, when speaking on Sky Sports’ Gillette Soccer Saturday programme today (Saturday, January 30th, 14:07):

“Michael Edwards is very calculated in what he does, he will be in communication with Jurgen Klopp. Perhaps if there’s someone available on a short-term who they can bring in, I think they should do that – someone who knows about playing in the centre-back position. Because centre-back is a specialist position. Unless they really push the boat out and get someone like Declan Rice, someone who can play in midfield and centre-back, comfortable in both positions. But I don’t think that’s going to happen.”

Rice, who earns £55k-a-week according to Football League FC, won’t come cheap, however, if Liverpool do indeed decide to try and sign him.

West Ham want at least £80 million for the 22-year-old according to the Times.

And given the financial impact of the global health crisis, that kind of fee may well prove to be just too much money for Liverpool.

Let’s just hope that the board show the ambition needed to keep hold of Rice. He is indispensable to us. It could be argued that the Englishman is actually priceless for West Ham.

If the Hammers are to make genuine progress, David Moyes absolutely must keep Rice at the London Stadium. Fingers crossed eh!
