Leeds United allegedly could sign West Ham United youngster Harrison Ashby in the January transfer window.

That’s according to football journalist Dean Jones who told Give Me Sport that Leeds are still very keen to sign the 20-year-old right-back from the Hammers.

Leeds and Newcastle both wanted to sign Ashby in the summer transfer window (The Daily Mail).

David Moyes kept the youngster at the London Stadium though, in the hope of tying him down to a new long-term contract.

The problem for West Ham is that Ashby’s deal expires in the summer of 2023. So if he hasn’t signed a new contract by January, he will surely be moved on. And Leeds are allegedly still very keen on signing him…

Leeds are still keen to sign West Ham youngster Harrison Ashby in the January transfer window

Dean Jones told Give Me Sport how Leeds are closely monitoring Ashby’s situation at West Ham ahead of the January transfer window:

“They (Leeds) do still like him. I think, from here, it’s going to depend on how West Ham decide to deal with him. Whether they reassess his contract situation and they can convince him of their own plans, there’s a lot to be sorted out there over the next few months.”

Now, we believe that selling the 20-year-old to Leeds, or losing him on a free transfer next summer, would be a huge mistake from the Hammers.

David Moyes should be doing everything in his power to keep him at the club.

Sure, there have been plenty of youngsters who’ve left us and gone on to nothing, but Ashby is different.

He’s the pick of the bunch in my eyes.

The 20-year-old is a hugely talented young player and was allegedly set for a role with the first-team this season having been promoted to the senior squad by West Ham manager David Moyes.

He has so much about him and has already proven that he is capable of mixing it up with seasoned veterans for the West Ham senior team.

Ashby is one of the brightest talents to be coming through the ranks at the London Stadium and he was in sensational form for the under-23s last term.

The 20-year-old clearly has all of the attributes needed to make it at the very highest level.

If he continues to work hard and applies himself properly, both on and off the pitch, the young right-back will have a very bright future ahead of him in the game.

West Ham website KUMB describe the 20-year-old as an ‘exceptional young talent’.

And West Ham moving Harrison Ashby on either in the January transfer window or next summer will be a massive mistake.
