West Ham United looked set to miss out on Rangers star Alfredo Morelos but the striker has given interested clubs new hope.
Football Insider recently claimed West Ham remain interested in the Rangers forward.
West Ham have been consistently linked with a move to sign Morelos from Rangers over the last two years.
According to a report from The Sun during lockdown, West Ham want the Gers’s Colombian striker in this window.
West Ham linked with Rangers star Morelos as Moyes chases striker
West Ham insiders Claret & Hugh claimed that David Moyes is focused on bringing in their ‘priority’ signing in the summer, a strike partner for record buy Sebastien Haller.
Moyes wants to build a new-look West Ham team of young, hungry, energetic, hardworking players.
Morelos, 24, certainly ticks those boxes.
But Claret & Hugh have claimed Moyes must sell to buy in this window.
Plans are reportedly in place to do just that with the likes of Felipe Anderson, Andriy Yarmolenko, Manuel Lanzini and others up for sale.
West Ham were told they would have to pay around £20million for Morelos, according to the Daily Record.
Hammers looked set to miss out to Lille
But a recent report from Football Insider claimed West Ham could now get the Colombian maverick for a bargain £12million after ‘reigniting interest’ ahead of the next transfer window.
No sooner has the transfer window opened, though, than West Ham looked set to miss out on the Gers’s 77-goal hero after reports a deal and personal terms had been agreed with French side Lille (Sky Sports).
But the Rangers star says Sky Sports have jumped the gun.
And West Ham will be given new hope they could yet sign the striker after Morelos spoke out to dismiss claims a deal had been agreed (The Sun).
In a frank assessment of his future, Morelos said he is keeping his options open as he seeks a move to a more competitive league.
“There is a lot of speculation about my transfer to another team but there is nothing yet,” Morelos told a Colombian TV channel, as reported by The Sun.
New hope as Morelos hits back at transfer claims
“We are waiting, playing matches here and if the opportunity arises then we will welcome it. There are clubs that have spoken but formally there is no agreement.
“If they make me choose between the European leagues, I like them all. Now I am waiting because there is nothing concrete. But if something was to happen we hope to have the opportunity in a more competitive league.
“There are several options but we are focused on what’s being done and preparing well for the league here. For now I am focused, doing things well and waiting for everything to happen from the hand of God.”
Morelos would be right up West Ham’s street. Hammers fans love players who wear their heart on their sleeves.
And Morelos is a hard worker who knows where the goal is too.
Many raise question marks over his ability to do it against tougher opposition.
But the Colombian’s goal record speaks for itself.
He has hit a superb 77 goals in 137 games. And that includes 18 in the Europa League from just 29 appearances in the last two seasons.
