A star David Moyes desperately wants at West Ham was left in tears after a worrying knee injury but there’s some good news.

West Ham boss Moyes was looking for more guile and goals from midfield in the summer, especially after deciding to let Nikola Vlasic leave for Torino.

And one name consistently linked with a move to West Ham was Spanish playmaker Gerard Deulofeu.

A string of reports emanating from Italy in the summer claimed West Ham were working on a move to bring the former Everton and Watford attacker back to the Premier League (Calciomercato).

Moyes was reportedly ‘very keen’ to sign Deulofeu with West Ham told they could land the Udinese man for as little as €15 million (£12.4 million) in the summer.

There was a big spanner in the works, though, when Napoli entered the running for his signature and Deulofeu reportedly preferred a move to the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.

Deulofeu had been somewhat off the radar since leaving Watford for sister club Udinese.

But the 28-year-old has returned to prominence in Italy, scoring 16 goals and laying on 12 assists from an attacking midfield position in 53 games for Udinese.

So it is easy to see why Moyes wanted the ex Barcelona man – especially for just £12.4m.

West Ham continue to struggle for goals and Moyes admitted at the weekend that the Hammers must find a way to score more if they are to turn a dismal league campaign around.

In the end West Ham moved on to other targets, signing the likes of Maxwel Cornet and Lucas Paqueta.

But Jarrod Bowen, who plays in the same position as Deulofeu, has been bang out of form and many supporters feel he needs competition on that right hand side.

So it would not be a surprise if West Ham reignite a move for Deulofeu in January, especially after a happy ending to a nightmare couple of days for the midfielder.

As reported by Football Italia, he was distraught when he suddenly crumpled to the ground in the 3-2 defeat and had to be consoled by teammates.

But there is good news for the player and Moyes if he remains interested in a potential January move.

Because the Spaniard has taken to Instagram to reassure supporters the injury is not particularly serious.

“I feared the worst, imagine how scared I was,” wrote Deulofeu.

“Fortunately, that is over. Some of the knee structure is affected by the sprain, but it is nothing serious.”
