West Ham United have reportedly clinched a deal to sign coveted Portuguese wonderkid Gedson Fernandes.
West Ham are believed to have beaten off competition from a host of clubs including Manchester United and Chelsea.
The 20-year-old midfielder’s desire to be close to his mother, who reportedly lives in London, and a better chance of game time saw the Hammers win the race for an 18-month loan deal.
West Ham boss David Moyes has made it clear he wants midfielders in January.
West Ham secure Fernandes loan deal?
As well as Fernandes the Scot has been linked with the likes of Sander Berge, Joe Allen and Marouane Fellaini.
The deal Fernandes is expected to be announced by West Ham soon.
But Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth has made a claim about the agreement which will worry West Ham fans.
Speaking on Sky Sports News’ Transfer Show on Thursday night, Sheth claimed a condition of the deal was that Fernandes was allowed to be included in the Benfica squad for their game against Aves on Friday night.

And given their horrendous luck with injuries over the years, that will have Hammers fans sweating should Fernandes feature.
“One interesting condition of this deal, though, is that I’m told Gedson will be in the squad tomorrow night… not for (the game between) Sheffield United and West Ham United but the Benfica squad for their match against Aves,” Sheth told Sky Sports News’ Transfer Show.
“That’s because someone that you’ll know, (former QPR midfielder) Adel Taarabt, now of Benfica (pictured on the left with Fernandes below), is suspended so that want him (Fernandes) in that squad.
‘West Ham will have half a worried eye on Benfica game’
“So I think while West Ham United are at Brammall Lane trying to get three points there, they might have half an eye on what’s happening at Benfica hoping Gedson Fernandes doesn’t suffer any sort of an injury.”
The claim comes after respected Italian football reporter Nicolo Schira revealed West Ham WILL have the option to sign the Portuguese talent permanently at the end of his loan deal.
Schira – a self-styled ‘expert in the transfer market’ – is well known to West Ham fans after breaking the news of Sebastien Haller’s record £45million move to East London in the summer.
