West Ham United’s move for Gedson Fernandes is ‘done and dusted’ this evening.
West Ham are one of a host of clubs that have been linked with a move for the Benfica wonderkid.
The Hammers faced competition from Manchester United and Chelsea.
West Ham win the battle for Fernandes
But West Ham have won the battle for the 20-year-old Portuguese midfielder’s signature.
That’s according to respected Italian football reporter Nicolo Schira this evening.
Schira – a self-styled ‘expert in the transfer market’ – is well known to West Ham fans after breaking the news of Sebastien Haller’s record £45million move to East London in the summer.
There has been claim and counter claim over the Fernandes deal for the past week. The latest being that the deal is a ‘straight loan’ with no option or obligation to buy.
Journalist who broke Haller makes exciting claim
But speaking on Twitter Schira has claimed the deal is complete WITH an option.
“Total agreement between West Ham and Benfica for Gedson Fernandes on 18-months loan with option to buy (for £32m),” Schira said on Twitter.

If accurate that is an exciting development for West Ham this evening.
West Ham fans will be delighted at claim
Many supporters were disappointed to learn there might not be an option to sign the young starlet permanently.
But Schira’s claim will enthuse fans.
It remains to be seen whether West Ham confirm if they have the option to sign the player should his loan deal prove a success.
