Sir Trevor Brooking has voiced West Ham transfer concerns and told David Moyes he must focus on one key area.

When club royalty speaks, you listen. So fans will be hoping that’s the case with David Moyes and Sir Trevor Brooking at West Ham.

The great man needs no introduction and his opinion on all things West Ham carries – as it should – a lot of weight.

It has been a long and difficult summer transfer window for the Hammers.

After losing talisman Declan Rice, it took West Ham far too long to get players through the door.

Sir Trevor Brooking voices West Ham transfer concerns and warns David Moyes he must focus on one key area

That was, in part, due to a clash between Moyes and new technical director Tim Steidten.

But that frosty relationship has thawed with midfield duo Edson Alvarez and James Ward-Prowse having arrived at the London Stadium in the last 10 days. And they will soon be followed by defender Konstantinos Mavropanos.

West Ham still have plenty to do in the window to get what they need in the team, though, according to our most famous number 10.

‘Trophy win masked problems of trying to strengthen the side this summer’

In an honest assessment, our former star player and one-time interim manager, says Moyes must focus on signing players who can bring more goals to the side.

Sir Trev says the business Moyes does between now and deadline day will ‘show us his strategy’. But he did not beat around the bush when telling the Scot what the priority transfer targets should be.

“Winning the Europa Conference League title was a really welcome bonus last season and that made the future look better, although there was always the issue of trying to strengthen the side,” Sir Trev told the club’s official website.

‘Transfers between now and deadline will show Moyes strategy but it’s vital he brings goals to the team’ says Sir Trev

“All clubs would ideally like to do their business early in the summer but frequently that is just not possible. I’m sure David Moyes would have liked to have everyone there well before the season started but there are always factors which slow things down…

“We will of course miss Declan, but hopefully the fee we got for him will help us significantly strengthen our squad over the next couple of weeks…

“How David assembles his squad by the time of the window will tell us more about his strategy, but it is vital we score enough goals to earn us the points we need and deserve.

“All in all, no-one at the time of writing this, really knows what squad we will ultimately have so it’s a really difficult one. This time last year I really thought we could struggle.

“Right now, if we get the right players in, I could see us finishing in the top-half, but I don’t want to see us stuck between Europe and the Premier League.”

Judging by transfer rumours and claims doing the rounds so far this week, Moyes appears to be heeding Brooking’s advice.

Because West Ham are now said to be prioritising a new striker with links to Hugo Ekitike, Youssef En-Nesyri and Romelu Lukaku.
