Desperate Liverpool have reportedly made a sudden swoop for longstanding West Ham midfield target Kalvin Phillips amid window frustrations.

West Ham fans will be all too aware of Liverpool’s interference in their transfer activity over the couple of seasons.

It was well publicised in January last year that West Ham were pushing hard to sign Darwin Nunez (Sky Sports).

Transfer reporter Fabrizio Romano confirmed West Ham’s move for Nunez was real but had only served to alert the likes of Liverpool to his availability.

The West Ham move did not happen and Liverpool duly pounced to sign Nunez the following summer.

Report: Desperate Liverpool make sudden swoop for longstanding West Ham midfield target Kalvin Phillips amid window frustrations

It was the second West Ham move Reds boss Jurgen Klopp had hijacked after Liverpool snatched Luis Diaz from under David Moyes’ nose when the Scot believed he had the Colombian all but signed (Daily Mail).

Now desperate Liverpool have made a sudden swoop for longstanding West Ham midfield target Kalvin Phillips amid window frustrations.

While it’s no hijack this time around, it is well known West Ham and Moyes have held an interest in Phillips stretching way back to the January 2022 window.

Hammers have been linked with Phillips again this summer after failed £50m bid while he was at Leeds

The Hammers made a £50m bid for Phillips back then which was rejected by Leeds, who went on to sell him for £5m less to Man City in the summer – as confirmed by Moyes himself.

After a dismal first season at the Etihad on a personal note, West Ham have again been linked Phillips in this summer transfer window.

Particularly when Declan Rice and Lucas Paqueta were being linked with Man CIty.

But now Liverpool are moving to try and sign Phillips from the champions.

Liverpool emerge as suitors for player Moyes loves – again

That’s according to claims emerging from talkSPORT on Monday afternoon.

Reporter Alex Crook has claimed Liverpool were considering rivalling West Ham to try and sign Phillips when he was still at Leeds.

And now he believes the double disappointment of missing out to Chelsea for Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia has seen them turn back to the player Moyes really wanted at West Ham.

“Kalvin Phillips is a player Liverpool looked at before he went from Leeds to Man City, and we know it’s been a tough window for Liverpool in terms of target they’ve missed out on…

“It’s one to keep an eye on from now until the end of the window.”
