Lucas Paqueta’s actions before leaving West Ham United were lost on Simon Jordan.

Indeed, West Ham agreed to sell Paqueta to Flamengo after the Brazilian made it clear he wanted to leave the club during the closing stages of the January transfer window.

Paqueta’s departure is likely to divide opinion among the West Ham fans. Though obviously a very talented player, he did not do enough this season.

How will you remember Lucas Paqueta? 🤔

Though his assist for Jarrod Bowen on that night in Prague will live long in the memory, to suggest Paqueta lived up to his full potential would probably be wrong.

As the 28-year-old was gearing up to leave the London Stadium, Paqueta issued a goodbye statement to West Ham fans

It did not go down particularly well with former Crystal Palace owner Jordan

Simon Jordan doesn’t understand Lucas Paqueta’s goodbye message

On Thursday, Jordan was speaking about the former Lyon star and his move back to his native Brazil.

Co-host Jim White then asked the notoriously outspoken Jordan about the message Paqueta sent to supporters ahead of his move.

After White read it out in full, Jordan said on 29/01/2026: “I don’t understand the point of these statements.

“No one was waiting around for a statement from Paqueta, were they? ‘Oh that’s alright then, we’ve got an understanding of why he’s leaving’.”

He then added: “He’s entitled to leave. If he wants to go, let him go.”

If Paqueta left for £35m, how much is Summerville worth right now? 🤑

Why Lucas Paqueta could come back to West Ham United

West Ham have inserted an interesting clause in the deal to sell Paqueta to Flamengo, which will see them given first refusal if the Brazilian club ever decide to put him on the market.

It does seem incredibly unlikely that Hammers fans will ever see him pull on the famous claret and blue shirt again, but that clause means there’s at least a chance.

Paqueta’s career at West Ham fizzled out. That assist in the Conference League final is quite the high watermark on which to reflect, but there wasn’t much substance other than that – albeit with obvious mitigating circumstances.
