So that need has become even more acute now Haller looks set to be sold.
Some West Ham fans do not believe unpopular co-owners David Sullivan and David Gold are selling to raise transfer funds for David Moyes.
According to an update from reliable insider ExWHUemployee, they may be right.
Speaking on his Patreon site, ExWHUemployee claims a senior West Ham official told him the club’s back-up plan if they aren’t able to sign a replacement for Haller this month.

Amd West Ham fans will no doubt find the suggestion involving Andriy Yarmolenko and untested youngster Mipo Odubeko both typical and laughable.
“I have also been told that by a senior club official that if we do not sign a forward it is ok because we have Yarmolenko that could play there and Mipo Odubeko could be in line to feature there against Stockport,” ExWHUemployee said on his Patreon site.
West Ham fans have been calling for Odubeko to be given a chance. But given the club’s comfortable position in the league, they also expect Moyes to go all out in the FA Cup. So playing the youngster is a risk in itself.
To suggest West Ham can simply use Yarmolenko as Haller’s replacement is a joke.
Yes the Ukraine winger could be used as false nine or emergency back-up.
Moyes left with one half-fit, injury prone striker in his entire squad
But West Ham are now down to one half-fit, injury-prone senior striker in their entire first team squad in the shape of Michail Antonio.
Moyes simply has to sign a replacement.
West Ham have made their best start to a season for 22 years. Any remotely ambitious owners would want to see if the club can build on that and achieve something memorable.
There are three weeks to go until the window closes. But West Ham have a run of winnable games in January and February. A good return from those fixtures could propel the Hammers right into European contention.
Without a replacement striker that is going to make things very difficult indeed.
