West Ham United are reportedly chasing the signing of Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay this summer.

Scott McTominay has been an extremely solid player for Manchester United over the past five years or so, and West Ham have been heavily linked with a move to sign him since the summer of 2022.

Julen Lopetegui may well now try to succeed where David Moyes failed, by bringing the Man United powerhouse midfielder to the London Stadium.

The Spaniard has already strengthened his right wing, goalkeeping and central defensive departments this summer.

Next up on the list will be the addition of a new centre-forward, I don’t think there’s any doubt about that, with Jhon Duran thought to be his prime target.

Once Lopetegui gets the striker signing done and dusted though, he may well switch his attention to bolstering his central midfield department.

That’s where McTominay could come into the fold.

However, there is one very big problem the Hammers could face in our summer pursuit of the powerful Scot…

Scott McTominay to West Ham could be on

The Scotland international would be the perfect central midfielder to perform the box-to-box role for the Hammers.

With his unbelievable energy levels, athleticism and stamina, he’d be the ideal accompaniment to Edson Alvarez, with the Mexican sitting just in front of the back four.

And now the Man United man arriving at the London Stadium this summer seems like it could well be a reality.

According to a report from Caught Offside, the Hammers want to sign McTominay from Man United this summer.

However, things won’t be straightforward it seems.

That’s because Newcastle allegedly want to prise the Scot away from Old Trafford as well, and Manchester United haven’t even decided if they want to sell him yet.

He’s under contract at Old Trafford until next summer, but Man United have the option to extend his deal by a further 12 months.

So they are very much in a position of power. That said, I still think Lopetegui should be going all out to bring McTominay to the London Stadium – he’d be an exceptional signing for us.

The 27-year-old Man United star has proven time and time again that he is a top-class Premier League performer.

McTominay is incredibly strong in the tackle, quick along the ground and possesses bundles of energy and athleticism.

He plays with real aggression and his fighting spirit would be a major asset for West Ham.

The official Manchester United website once suggested that the ‘incredible’ McTominay ‘wows the Old Trafford fans’.

If West Ham manage to sign Scott McTominay from Manchester United this summer, it would be a big statement of intent from Lopetegui and co.
