Scintillating David Moyes target Brennan Johnson shows he is ready for reported West Ham move in Nottingham Forest win

Scintillating David Moyes target Brennan Johnson shows he is ready for a reported move to West Ham in latest Nottingham Forest win.

Nottingham Forest rejected big bids for Johnson in January and Football Insider claims West Ham are looking to sign the 20-year-old attacker in the summer.

It is well known that Moyes likes to watch transfer targets live a number of times before making decisions on whether to try and bring them to West Ham.

The Best XI Already NOT Going To The 2022 World Cup

We understand Moyes was on a scouting mission to watch Johnson in action for Wales against Czech Republic in the week. And he impressed with an assist in a 1-1 draw with West Ham star Tomas Soucek getting his side’s goal.

Hammers scouts were likely to have been in attendance yesterday too when Johnson played in Nottingham Forest’s emphatic 4-1 win over Blackpool.

Michael Appleton – who managed Johnson during a loan spell at Lincoln last term – said he knows of three or four Premier League clubs that want to sign Johnson in the summer (Sky Sports). Widespread reports suggest West Ham are among the leading candidates.

And scintillating Moyes target Johnson showed he is ready for a reported West Ham move in the Nottingham Forest win with two goals and and assist.

But it was the sheer quality of the goals which will have made Moyes or any watching West Ham scouts seriously sit up and take notice.

The technical quality, composure and class on display was akin to a Robin van Persie in his pomp. Yes it is Championship level but anyone watching Johnson would see this is a player destined for the Premier League next season.

The Nottingham Post gave Johnson’s performance a 9/10 rating saying: “Composure beyond his years with two brilliant, clinical finishes in the first half, plus an assist.

“What a talent he is. Outstanding. Rating: 9/10.”

It is easy to see why Moyes is interested in Johnson. He perfectly fits the Scot’s recruitment policy at West Ham.

This weekend Moyes confirmed he will be targeting a mix of international stars and young, hungry players from the lower leagues in this summer’s transfer market.

Johnson is young, quick, athletic, skilful and undoubtedly hungry to prove himself in the top flight given he is now a full international with Wales and with a World Cup looming large.

Johnson took his tally for the season to 21 goals and assists in 42 games for Forest from an attacking midfield/wide forward role this season. He also has an excellent average match rating of over 7/10 too (WhoScored).

Like Jarrod Bowen before him, Johnson is exactly the kind of hugely promising Championship talent West Ham should be looking to sign.

Let’s hope Moyes gets his man when the window comes around.
