Aston Villa boss Dean Smith shared the one reason why he decided against signing West Ham United star Said Benrahma in the summer, as quoted by the Birmingham Mail.
In other news…Report: Door now open for West Ham to sign electric 18-goal striker in the summer
The 25-year-old ended up joining he Hammers on a permanent £25 million deal last month, having spent the previous three months at the London Stadium on a £4 million loan deal (Eurosport).
Benrahma made a slow start to life at West Ham. He has now established himself as an important member of David Moyes’s side, however.
The Algeria international has the ability to produce a little bit of magic at any given time and he has certainly given the Hammers another facet to their attacking play.

Said Benrahma not needed at Aston Villa Dean Smith claims
The Villans were interested in signing Benrahma before he joined West Ham (Birmingham Mail).
Dean Smith opted against bringing him to Villa Park, however, for one very simple reason, as quoted by the Birmingham Mail:

“He’s one we looked at but I see Jack Grealish on the left and there’s not many people who will get ahead of him, if any.”
In fairness, Grealish has been quite simply sensational this season.
David Moyes suggested that the 25-year-old is the best player in the Premier League at the moment. And he’s not far wrong.
Let’s hope that Benrahma can show Villa what they missed out on tonight.
If the Algerian produces his best stuff, Smith may well be left scratching his head wondering why he didn’t sign him for Aston Villa.
